RUNNING THE TEST
Begin the audio and listen for the word START, this signifies that the test has begun and the students should be running.
Walking is permitted as long as the student maintains the “pace.”
Students will run from the START line to the END line and touch the END line with their foot before the BEEP sounds on the audio.
At the sound of the BEEP the students must turn around and run back to the other end.
If students reach the line before the beep sounds, they must wait at the line until they hear the beep and then run back to the other end.
When the DOUBLE BEEP sounds, students should turn around and run to the other end whether they are at the line or not.
The only difference between the BEEP and the DOUBLE BEEP is that the DOUBLE BEEP sounds at the end of each minute and also alerts students that the pace will increase.
Students continue running back and forth from the START line to the END line until they have completed the PACER or they have had two misses.
If the student fails to reach the line by the time the BEEP sounds then that is counted as a miss. If a student get two misses then their test is done and they have completed the PACER.
Explaining the PACER to students can go something like this:
”Today, we’re going to do a running challenge called the Beep test. The goal is to stay in the challenge as long as you can.
To complete each level, you need to run from one side of the cones to the other. When you hear the beep, run! Start running towards the other end.
You need to reach the other side before the next beep. If you get to the cone before the next beep, wait to hear the next beep before running again.
The beeps will get closer together as the test goes on, so you’ll have to run faster! Don’t worry if you can’t keep up; just do your best.
If you can’t make it to the line before the beep 2 times, the test is done for you and you can stop running.
Remember, just do your personal best, this is not a competition.
