  • WHAT IS A POEM?
    A poem is a special way of writing to express feelings, paint pictures with your words, and share ideas. Poems often say a lot with just a few lines. Poems often use poetry tools like rhymes, rhythm, similes, metaphors, hyperbole, alliteration, and descriptive language using your 5 senses.

    POETRY CIRCLE GUIDELINES:
    1) Your poems must be completely original. You can’t have ChatGPT write your poem for you.
    2) Poems must have at least 8 lines.
    3) You can submit up to 3 poems each month to be considered for a prize.

  • WOW!!! 😲 (10 points) — Poem uses poetic language and interesting vocabulary that engages the reader. Poem has structure and flows well.

    NIIIICE 😎 (8 points) — Poem uses some poetic language and vocabulary. It has some structure and flow.

    NEEDS A LITTLE MORE WORK & TIME 👍 (5 points) — Poem needs more poetic language, structure, and flow.

  • WOW!!! 😲 (10 points) — This poem has clear ideas, themes, story-telling, or purpose throughout the writing.

    NIIIICE 😎 (8 points) — The poem has some idea, theme, story-telling, or purpose.

    NEEDS A LITTLE MORE WORK & TIME 👍 (5 points) — The poem does needs more clear ideas, themes, story-telling, or purpose.

  • WOW!!! 😲 (10 points) — The poem has clear emotion(s) from the writer's words/attitude. The poem creates a mood through vocabulary choices and strong writing.

    NIIIICE 😎 (8 points) — The poem creates some emotion from the writer. The poem creates a mood that is understandable but not as clear.
